Community Doula Program

A Doula is Ready to Support You

At Cradle Indy, we believe no one should have to go through pregnancy and birth alone. Every family deserves extra care, encouragement, and trusted support. At Cradle Indy, we’ve partnered with doula organizations offering caring, culturally rooted doula support. Together, we make sure families have the care and resources they need.

How it works:

  • Get Connected: Fill out our quick interest form or get referred by a community partner to join the Cradle Indy network.

  • Doula Care: You’ll be matched with a trained doula who supports you through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

  • Extra Help: We can also connect you to resources like housing, mental health care, and parenting support, whatever helps you feel cared for.

Doula FAQ

A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and informational support to a birthing person before, during, and after childbirth. A doula isn’t a medical provider, so they do not provide any clinical services. While your doctor, midwife, or nurse focuses on medical care, your doula focuses on you… your comfort, your voice, and your experience.

  • Prepares you for birth and postpartum

  • Offers continuous support during labor and delivery

  • Provides comfort measures (breathing techniques, positioning, massage)

  • Supports partners and loved ones in their role

  • Connects families to local resources and services

  • Helps you recover, feed your baby, and get connected to resources postpartum

  • So much more!

Research shows that families supported by doulas often experience:

  • Lower rates of cesarean birth

  • Shorter labor

  • Less need for pain medication

  • Higher satisfaction with their birth experience

  • Fewer complications

  • Improved postpartum mental health

  • Stronger bonding and breastfeeding outcomes

A midwife provides medical care; a doula provides non-medical emotional and physical support. Both often work together as a team during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Absolutely! A doula works alongside your partner or support person, bringing extra knowledge and continuous support for everyone.

No! Doulas support people giving birth in hospitals, birthing centers, or at home. They support ALL kinds of birth, from midwife-supported home births to scheduled cesareans.

When you connect with Cradle Indy, we’ll learn about your needs, preferences, and any special requests you may have. From there, we’ll match you with a doula from our partner network who best fits your journey. You’ll also have the chance to meet and make sure it feels like a good match before moving forward.

You and your doula will decide what works best, but typically you’ll meet several times during pregnancy, have continuous labor support, and meet again after birth.

Right now, our doula services are open to families in the 46201, 46218, 46219 zip codes, with a focus on those who may face barriers to quality maternal care. There is no income, documentation, or insurance requirements.

Through our partnerships, doula services are offered at no cost to eligible families, regardless of income or insurance.
